About Joanne's work

Doula Services
A Certified Doula is a woman who is trained and experienced in assisting the expectant couple through labor and birth. Doulas provide continuous reassurance and emotional support, provide physical comfort measures such as massage, visualizations, and positioning advice, and provide informational support on the course of their labor and their options. As employees of the expectant couple, instead of the hospital, doulas are free to give complete and unbiased informational support.; Certified doulas do not make decisions for their clients nor project their values and goals onto the laboring woman. Doulas do not perform medical tasks such as vaginal exams or fetal heart rate monitoring. Several studies have shown the presence of doulas reduce intervention and cesarean rates.

Licensed Massage Therapy
A western style of massage that relieves stress, relaxes muscle tissue, and improves blood and lymph circulation. Swedish Massage consists of gliding, kneading, brisk, and tapping strokes to the superficial skin or deeper muscle tissues. Pressure is light to medium. This session may also include Deep Tissue and/or Trigger Point Massage on specific muscles or muscle groups, as needed.

Reiki
Reiki (Universal Life Force) is an ancient and powerful form of healing which is applied with the hands. Reiki treats the mind, body, emotions and spirit. It brings more life, vitality, clarity, wellness and peace of mind. Reiki aids in the healing process and brings relief from stress and pain.

Trigger Point Therapy
Triggerpoints are painful nodules located in muscles or tendons. They often refer pain to other parts of the body and can limit movement and range of motion. Sciatica, tennis elbow and headaches are often caused by triggerpoints. Injuries, improper posture and overuse syndromes and stress cause trigger points to form in the musculature. Triggerpoints are gradually released using deep pressure, movement and energy balancing.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
EFT is a meridian-based healing technique that provides relief from pain, diseases and emotional issues. It is a unique version of acupuncture without the use of needles. Instead, well established energy meridian points are stimulated on the body by tapping on them with fingertips in conjunction with speaking affirmations.

Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy works with the skeletal structure and connective tissues throughout the body. Injuries and trauma cause the body to contract and hood tension resulting in pain and constriction. Craniosacral Therapy locates and reduces or eliminates these tension s bringing relief and freedom. Treatments are powerfully transformational yet gentle and deeply relaxing.
